Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Bioinformatics) - University of New South Wales

Highly skilled and motivated candidates are invited to express their interest in a postdoctoral research fellow position in bioinformatics at the University of New South Wales. The UNSW is a national leader in research and the institution has state-of-the-art facilities for medical research and bioinformatics.

The successful candidate will take a lead role to advance innovative phylogenetics approaches for the investigation of mechanisms by which influenza viruses evolve and develop antiviral resistance. They will join a group conducting research in bioinformatics, computational biology and experimental biology.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related life science discipline, a demonstrated record of conducting research in bioinformatics or computational biology, strong programming skills in languages including c++ and perl and a demonstrated record of writing and implementing computer algorithms for scientific research.

Applicants should be highly self-motivated, demonstrate an ability to work independently and collaboratively to implement research goals within specified time periods, have a track record of writing and publishing scientific research papers and delivering strong presentations of their results at scientific conferences, and have the ability to train and supervise postgraduate research students where necessary. Candidates must have excellent verbal and writing skills in English.

The position is a full time, fixed term position for 12 months in the first instance with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. Salary is approximately $85K p.a. + superannuation benefits. Candidates must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.
