Winter is coming! ...erm, actually Winter is here

...and the 2014 Winter School in Mathematical and Computational Biology is well and truly underway.

I got to see some excellent lectures on Day 1 and, as always, my thanks go to all presenters and the organisers (Dr Nick Hamilton, Professor Mark Ragan, and Lanna Wong - the power behind the throne) for this great annual event in the Australian bioinformatics calendar.

And speaking of thrones, I kneel humbly before the noble and creative efforts of Ser Ken McGrath from the Australian Genome Research Facility, who made lords and ladies swoon with his inspired appropriation of a popular cultural meme.

Alas, the slides below are but a hollow echo of Ken's ballad, but I understand it is a tale he is willing to re-tell.

I, for one, hope he can some day find room for Lady Brienne of Tarth in the next(-gen) exciting installment.
