Breakfast of Champions

In an effort to iron out bugs and niggles before spreading the word about AustralianBioinformatics.net I’ve been gradually asking more and more people to test out the site. Here’s some of the feedback and actions in response so far:

  • The categories (type/city) for jobs and events is good (maybe add "Workshop")?
The categories that show up in the “Open Jobs” and “Upcoming Events” boxes reflect the categories currently present in the list of Jobs and Events. In other words, if there are no “Workshops” coming up, there will be no “Workshop” heading under “Upcoming Events By Type”
  • Is it possible to login using OAuth or OpenID, so I can use existing (e.g. Twitter, Wordpress, Google) credentials?
A quick search of the SquareSpace Community suggests that yes: this is something folks want, but no: this is not something the SquareSpace platform supports <sigh>
  • Will there be a way for members to have a public, searchable profile? ie. imagine every bioinformatician in Australia in the system, with tags like location (city)  and skills (statistics, NGS, software, Perl) etc.
This question led to the creation of the  Profiles page
  • I’ve joined the ABN, but I can’t seem to edit a Profile for myself?
Thank goodness for helpful testers—this was an oversight with permissions. Things have been fixed so that members are able to edit parts of the site directly, including  Profiles and The Pipeline

Now, onwards to lunch!
