Vice-Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellow in Crop Bioinformatics (re-advertised)

The Crop Biotechnology Program within the Centre for Systems Biology (CSBi) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with skills in bioinformatics and crop genetics for a three year project funded by the newly established USQ Strategic Research Fund. The successful candidate will provide expertise in bioinformatics and genetics to a range of existing and future research projects in biotic and abiotic stress tolerance in winter cereals. They will be expected to contribute to postgraduate student supervision and to prepare and submit new grant proposals to external funding agencies, in collaboration with our research team and external collaborators.

The Team

The CSBi Crop Improvement Program is an internationally respected research team led by Prof Mark Sutherland, engaged in a range of funded research projects examining crop responses to biotic and abiotic stress. Current projects relevant to this position are focussed on the winter cereals particularly with respect to selecting increased resistance towards root pathogens of wheat as well as foliar pathogens of barley and to improving radiant frost tolerance. In the immediate future we are expanding our studies into biotic stress responses in chickpeas and summer crops, work which will also require bioinformatics-based support.
