Molecular and Biomedical Sciences: Senior Lecturer in Biostatistics


Murdoch is a University striving to make a difference to the way we live, think and understand each other and the world around us.  Over the past two years Murdoch has undergone significant restructure to boost the quality of research and teaching and is today amongst one of the best universities in the world opened less than fifty years ago.

The School of Veterinary and Life Sciences at Murdoch University has core research and teaching strengths in Molecular and Biomedical Sciences, Veterinary Science, Agricultural Sciences and Environmental and Conservation Sciences. The School also hosts the College of Veterinary Medicine and is involved in teaching undergraduate medical students and biomedical science students, amongst other Life Science cohorts.

Murdoch University invites applications for a continuing (tenure-track) position in biostatistics within the School of Veterinary and Life Sciences. The position will be filled at either the Senior Lecturer (C) or the Lecturer (B) level.

Research Associate – Imaging and Informatics Group (IIG)

Are you a Bioinformatics expert and want to work alongside a committed and progressive new research team in the new Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research at QEII, in Perth?

Imaging and Informatics (IIG) is a new group established to support clinical, genetic, epidemiological

and experimental ophthalmic research at the Lions Eye Institute. It engages in methodological and collaborative research. Bioinformatics experts will assist with research areas that overlap with biostatistics, computational biology, statistical genetics, epidemiology, health economics and computational medicine.

The creation of this new group has created an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to join
LEI. This is a fulltime, fixed term (12 month) position and the role will:
  • Collaborate with other groups/ laboratories within the Institute/University of WA
  • Develop image segmentation algorithms Design software for high-throughput image data analysis
  • Investigate new strategies for data visualisation for diagnosis and management of retinal disease
  • Design methodology for data visualisation to aid monitoring disease progression and structure function correlation
  • Investigate new imaging modalities to enhance diagnosis of eye disease
  • Obtain grants for res earch in the area of Ophthalmic Imaging

Manager, Bioinformatics, Perth

The Telethon Institute for Child Health Research is one of the nation's leading medical research organisations with impressive facilities in Subiaco. This newly created position will develop and enable bioinformatics across our activities to meet the growing need. This position will be responsible for:

  • Developing innovative tools for bioinformatics analysis and directing resources
  • Managing the McCusker Foundation Bioinformatics Centre employees
  • Implementation of workflows, ensuring quality control and timely delivery of support
  • Manage and interpret large and complex datasets generated from a diverse range of sources, including; research studies involving high-throughput sequencing, gene/microRNA expression arrays, metabolomics, GWAS, population-based cohort studies derived from various sources including banked primary biological samples, clinical trials, animal studies and publicly available databases
  • Recommending further enhancement of computational capacity

Research Associate - UWA Institute of Agriculture

The successful appointee will apply molecular biology and genomics to investigate the plant side of the interaction with the fungal pathogen, Rhizoctonia solani. In addition, the fungal side of the interaction will be explored through comparative genomic and transcriptomic analysis of R. solani isolates with contrasting pathogenicity profiles. The ultimate aim of the work is the design of novel strategies to combat the large economic impacts of R. solani in Australian agriculture.
