Research Officer / Senior Research Officer - Bioinformatics Division, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research

An opportunity exists for a postdoctoral scientist (Research Officer) to join the Bioinformatics Division of The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI). The Bioinformatics Division is one of the largest bioinformatics research groups in Australia.

The position will be in the research lab of Professor Gordon Smyth. The lab develops statistical methodology and computational algorithms for analysing genomic data, with a view to understanding gene expression patterns and gene regulatory mechanisms. The lab actively collaborates with biological scientists at the WEHI and elsewhere on problems relating to stem cells, cancer and immunological disorders. The lab routinely analyses data from RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, Hi-C, DNA-seq and other technologies. More information about the lab is available from:

http://www.wehi.edu.au/people/gordon-smyth

The appointee will focus particularly on the analysis of chromatin conformation data, developing new methods for such data and collaborating on biological projects, relating to autoimmune conditions, that generate such data.

This position would suit a PhD graduate in a relevant discipline such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, computational biology or genetics. The appointee will have strong programming and data analysis skills. Prior experience in genomic research is not essential, but the applicant must be highly motivated to work on problems in medical biology.

The positions will be for 2 years in the first instance. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. Up to 17% superannuation and attractive salary packaging options are available.

A position description is available.

General Enquiries should be directed to Professor Gordon Smyth (smyth@wehi.edu.au).

Written applications including cover letter, CV and the names of 3 professional referees should be emailed in PDF format to jobapplications@wehi.edu.au quoting WEHI/MKGS in the subject line.
