PhD scholarship and summer scholarship in Bioinformatics - Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, Sydney

The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (VCCRI), established in 1994, is recognised as an international centre of excellence in biomedical research, with a focus on heart disease and cardiovascular biology.

Applications are invited from those with a strong interest in bioinformatics and statistical genetics to join our rapidly expanding bioinformatics research program at the VCCRI, led by Dr Joshua Ho and Dr Eleni Giannoulatou. More details about our research activities can be found on our website

Our laboratories are currently offering the following scholarships:

PhD scholarship (Multiple): Bachelor’s degree with honours in bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, science, engineering or a relevant quantitative field. Good programming skill in at least one language (e.g., R, Perl, C++ or Java) is essential. Previous experience in analysis of next generation sequencing data is highly desirable. A successful candidate is expected to be competitive for an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or a similar scholarship. A successful candidate will be offered a top up scholarship of $6,000 per annum. The top candidate will also be eligible for the competitive VCCRI PhD scholarship which is worth an additional $10,000 per annum.

Summer scholarship / internship (Multiple): We invite applicants with good computer programming skills, especially students from IT, software engineering, biomedical engineering, computer engineering, or related disciplines. Candidates with prior experience in bioinformatics or biology are highly encouraged to apply. The positions are open to all Australian citizens, permanent residents and overseas students who have a valid visa that permits them to work full time during the summer holiday. We are looking for candidates who want to work for 6-12 weeks during the summer. A stipend of $300 per week will be paid to successful applicants.
