Senior System Administrator - Canberra

We are looking for an experienced Linux system administrator. The new candidate will be responsible for design, development and maintenance of large size data storage and backup, our computing cluster and client database services. This is Canberra based, permanent position with salary depending on candidate's qualifications.

Detailed requirements:

  • General expertise in Linux administration (mostly SuSE and CentOS), which includes, but is not limited to technologies like LDAP, Samba, Postfix, IMAP, MySQL, svn
  • Good Linux hardware compatibility knowledge
  • Experience in maintenace of big storage systems (RAID arrays, SAN)
  • System and web site monitoring (Nagios)
  • Creation of clustered solutions (VM or configuration based)
  • Good understanding of network security (experinece with Apache would be a big bonus)
  • Ability to script (automate) tasks - bash or Perl
  • Ability to work independently and communicate with future users
  • Good self organisation
  • Positive attitude, open mind and passion for open source development
  • Ability to troubleshoot Windows desktop would be a bonus


  • Maintain servers and other company hardware
  • Monitor servers, network and backups for potential problems
  • Develop existing infrastructure, so it meets the evolving needs and circumstances
  • Collect requirements for a new projects and implement them
  • Develop and keep system documentation in proper order


  • Interesting, multinational (multilingual) work environment
  • Gaining experiences in the areas of bioinformatics, plant breeding
  • Learning about interesting statistical approaches
  • Getting involved in a high volume data management system
