Whole Genome Sequencing in Clinical and Public Health Microbiology

This symposium is jointly organised by the Centre for Infectious Diseases and Microbiology - Public Health, the Marie Bashir Institute for Infectious Diseases and Biosecurity, and the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Critical Infection, and is aimed at microbiologists, scientists, clinicians and public health and infection control professionals.

The aim of this Symposium is to critically examine the utility of next generation sequencing (NGS) in the diagnosis and surveillance of infectious diseases. The emphasis will be on genome sequence analysis from data generated by benchtop NGS platforms and on the added value of NGS for infection control and public health. The new initiative of MBI and CIDM-PH “NSW Pathogen Genome Sequencing network” will be also presented.

Confirmed Keynote Speakers

  • Amy Jennison, Public Health Microbiology, Forensic and Scientific Services, Health Support Queensland
  • Nico Petty, The iThree Institute, University of Technology Sydney
  • Torsten Seemann, Victorian Bioinformatics Consortium, Monash University
